Fire Hoses

A fire hose is a hose that carries water to supply a nozzle to extinguish fire. Outdoors, it attaches either to a fire engine or a fire hydrant. Indoors, it can permanently attach to a fixed system installation. The usual working pressure of a firehose can vary between 8 and 20 bar. After use, a fire hose is usually hung to dry because standing water that remains in a hose for a long time can deteriorate the material and render it unreliable or unusable.

FIRE HOSES – FEATURES

Hose can be layflat (employed either in fixed systems or used by Professional Fire Fighters) or semirigid (employed in fixed hose systems)
Layflat hose is a hose with a soft wall which, when unpressurized internally, collapses to such an extent that the inner faces of the inside diameter make contact and the hose takes up a flat cross-sectional appearance while semirigid hose is a hose which maintains its round cross-section even when unpressurized. Essentially the hose is produced with an external jacket and an impermeable lining. The hose jacket is a circular woven seamless reinforcement. The yarn is made of high tenacity polyester. The lining can be EPDM or thermoplastic elastomer.
ACCORDING TO SPECIFIC USE HOSES CAN BE:
  • Type 1 (Uncoated) Hoses to which no external treatment has been applied to the reinforcement and are therefore liable to absorb liquids. Normally this hose is employed in fixed systems inside civil buildings.
  • Type 2 (Coated) Hoses to which an external elastomeric coating has been applied to the reinforcement to give some protection against the absorption of liquids, and to improve resistance to abrasion of the reinforcement. This hose is normally employed in industrial hose systems.
  • Type 3 (Covered) Hoses to which an external elastomeric cover has been applied. Covering can alternatively be incorporated in the reinforcement to give the hoses very low absorption of liquids and high resistance to abrasion and heat. This hose is normally employed by Professional Fire Fighters.
